Expressing its nomadic origins through a celebrative color palette and panoply of natural forms this Bakhtiari village rug incorporates a Tree of Life at its center and the often seen repeating combination of willow and cypress tree motifs as a field pattern. The density of the design is intentional as also seen in other Persian tribal rugs and is meant to capture the overwhelming presence of nature whether visible or unseen as in some arid territories. Here the trademark clear and jewel-toned Bakhtiari colors are on display particularly their emerald-spruce spectrum and canary yellows. Unusually elegant ivory main borders amplify the diagonals within the rug with their dynamic serrated leaf devices. Happily this splendid antique rug is in superb condition for even a heavily trafficked area.
